Derek Pyle – Long Bio

HISTORIES OF RESISTANCE AND REFORM

Derek Pyle aims to create a historical record outlining the histories of resistance and reform within and outside of United States psychiatry, psychology, social services and the penal system. Hoping this project will grow through engagement with the Mad in America community, he welcomes correspondence at [email protected].

Derek’s additional areas of interest include Wilfred Bion, James Joyce, and the Muppets. His massive chronologically-organized record collection ranges from Bach to 2Pac, plus people’s orchestras of Chmielnej, Poland and Mopti, Mali. He is co-director of Waywords and Meansigns, an international project setting Finnegans Wake to music. Derek also works at Afiya, a part of the Western Mass Recovery Learning Community.
