Patrick Allen is a PhD candidate at The University of Birmingham School of Philosophy. Patrick’s focus is the philosophy of the cognitive sciences, medical ethics and health law. The objective of Patrick’s PhD thesis is to take a close look at anxiety and its so-called disorders and to demonstrate that the psychiatric assumptions underlying anxiety as a disorder requires a philosophical re-conceptualization. Patrick completed a Master’s in Medical Ethics and Health Law from the University of Manchester and focused his thesis on the ethics of informed consent and the prescription of SSRI antidepressants. Patrick also completed a BA in religious studies from The University of Prince Edward Island.
