Involuntary/Assisted Outpatient Treatment Survey

Involuntary/Assisted OutpatientĀ TreatmentĀ (IOT/AOT)Ā hasĀ become increasingly common across states in the U.S., as well as across the world,Ā since the implementation of New York State’s Kendra’s Law in 1999. You can read more about these programs here.

Typically, a person who is placed on involuntary/assisted outpatient treatment is ordered by a courtĀ to take psychotropic medication and attend some type of psychiatric/mental health therapy program. The consequence of not following the court’s treatment plan often includesĀ beingĀ involuntarily admitted to a psychiatric hospital, either temporarily or for an extended stay. Sometimes patients agree toĀ IOT/AOT orders without a court order in exchange for being released from a psychiatric hospital/ward, among other reasons.

If you have been orderedĀ on involuntary/assistant outpatient treatment,Ā we invite you to participate in our survey. If you have any questions or want to talk about your IOT experience without taking the survey, email [email protected]
