JC was working on her master’s in clinical mental health, pursuing her goal of becoming a mental health counselor, when she was disabled by the prescribed use of Ativan in 2014. Shocked by widespread lack of knowledge within the medical community about problems associated with iatrogenic dependence to benzodiazepines taken as prescribed, JC helped form the Benzodiazepine Information Coalition, the first benzodiazepine awareness and advocacy nonprofit in the US.
