Crossroads of Crisis: Dreams & Strategies for Collective CareCrossroads of Crisis: Dreams & Strategies for Collective Care – 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm ET One synonym for crisis is “crossroads.” This moment offers us a significant opportunity to transform what crisis is, and what care can look like. The number of innovative programs and services (e.g. respite centers, psychiatric advance directives) that nurture autonomy and self-determination is growing, as is the understanding our trauma has multiple roots. We ask: What could happen if our crises were widely understood not as a personal failure, but as a symptom of a world that is suffering? What if our care systems prioritized resourcing communities, rather than “outsourcing” to professionals? What if we met these global inflection points with a vast spectrum of collective care tools and networks? IDHA’s Fall 2022/Spring 2023 Training Series, Crossroads of Crisis, reimagines the crisis continuum – interrogating what crisis is, where it comes from, how to respond to it with curiosity and compassion, and the role of providers and communities. Building on former IDHA offerings Crisis as Catalyst and Cultivating Community, we will ground our learning in the voices of lived experience and approach the theme of crisis from multiple lenses and dimensions. Drawing inspiration and lessons from current community-based efforts, we will practice how to disrupt paradigms of coercion, create personal codes of ethics, and attune to the needs of those we support in professional and nonprofessional roles. We hope you will join us in building a world beyond 988. Crossroads of Crisis: Dreams & Strategies for Collective Care |

PharmedOut 9th Conference: Making Healthy People Sick: Invented Diseases and Overtreatment Thursdays on the Stoop- Writing Madness with Karin JervertThursdays on the Stoop- Writing Madness with Karin Jervert – Time Zone: Eastern Time How do we write the lived experience of madness? In this workshop we will read poetry by mad authors and discuss and respond to prompts that will help us explore questions like: How do we write about depression, anxiety, or psychosis without losing important threads of meaning? What wisdom do these states have to offer us? How do we write about madness in a way that does not default to stereotypical tropes, stigmatizing or oppressive language? How do we mine madness and the many diversities of human perception for writing material? How do we write in a way that honors the the rich ways extreme states of consciousness inform our experiences and nurture meaning and connection? Karin Jervert is a US based artist, author and psychiatric survivor. She is certified in eCPR and Personal Medicine, she currently serves as arts editor at Mad in America. Her artwork includes nonfiction essays, visual art, graphic narratives, and poetry that explores self empowerment, nature and the sacred, normalization of suffering and the power of creative expression to transform trauma - particularly trauma experienced as a result of forced psychiatric treatment. Her study of Buddhism, earth based spirituality, ritual practice, and improvisational comedy find their way into her work as well. You can find Karin’s work on the web at something-wonderful.net or in instagram @karin.jervert. |
