Peeling Back the Layers of Stigma Surrounding Mental Illness, Medication, and Withdrawal

February 14, 2019

Holistic Mental Health Network is presenting an important and under-discussed topic for February:

What is it like to take medication for a mental illness? How do societal reactions differ compared with treatments for other conditions or illnesses? Can medication change your relationship with your family, your friends, your doctor? Join us as we explore these issues through lively discussion, dialogue, and role playing.

Presenter: Laurie Oakley has written about her experiences within medical and mental healthcare systems in her book, Crazy And It Was, and now facilitates a Medication Withdrawal Support Group in Cincinnati. She is also co-founder of WARM, an international network of peer-led support groups for people interested in tapering from prescribed medications.
Thurs., Feb. 14th
7pm to 9pm (1st hour presentation, 2nd hour sharing)

at Community Friends Meeting
3960 Winding Way
Cincinnati, OH 45229

Please RSVP: [email protected] or text/call 513-328-8178

Our Mission (in brief): Our network envisions the greater Cincinnati area as a place where people can find support, vresources, and help in times of mental health distress, without stigma and with hope for wholeness. We help raise awareness of the need for a whole person/whole community approach to mental health, beyond the brain disease model.
