Mental Patients Liberation Alliance 39th Annual Bastille Day Vigil, Celebration, and Demonstration

Mental Patients Liberation Alliance 39th Annual Bastille Day Vigil, Celebration, and Demonstration

July 13, 2019 July 16, 2019

WHAT:  The Mental Patients Liberation Alliance 39th Annual Bastille Day Vigil, Celebration, and Demonstration to help celebrate the human spirit and help break the silence about psychiatric oppression and psychiatric tyranny and a virtual option for people to participate.

WHO:     People who have been subjected to and injured by psychiatry and their allies.

WHEN: (IN-PERSON EVENT) July 13 – 16, 2019

WHERE: Doorstep of the New York State Office of Mental Health, 44 Holland Avenue Albany, New York, 12229

WHEN: (ONLINE EVENT) ongoing, beginning June 27, 2019

WHERE: https://www.facebook.com/events/345236362858562/

WHY.  The Alliance invites people who are unable to attend the 39th Annual vigil, celebration, and demonstration in Albany, New York to virtually participate by posting their videos, memes, and other writings about why they are celebrating the human spirit and speaking out against psychiatric oppression that will be shared with others through the Facebook Event Page.  The Alliance wants to know what concerns you.  New York State practices that are opposed by The Alliance this Bastille Day include the use of brain damaging shock treatment (electroconvulsive treatment, ECT), the lack of adequate informed consent processes, and OMH promoting the use of shock treatment on pregnant women, children, and senior citizens. The Alliance remains opposed to the use of physical, mechanical, and chemical restraints, restraining devices, and solitary confinement. The Alliance calls attention to the use of threat of court-involvement and/or court order to gain compliance with fraudulent psychiatric treatment known to cause serious bodily injury including death and the routine practice of subjecting people to psychiatric practices over objection. The Alliance opposes the continued mass drugging of children. The Alliance demands an end to racist and classist programs of surveillance and social control in New York State.
