    There has been an ad campaign to stop kids drinking alcohol here in Western Australia. The ad uses a mechanical example of the human brain to demonstrate how alcohol affects a childs brain. The ad can be seen on the right side of this web page.

    I can’t find the original ad that ran, but it was the same cog mechanism shown, except it started collapsing to demonstrate the damage done. Here is what our Mental Health Minister had to say about the campaign.

    Now, it seems to me that they recognise how easily a childs brain can be damaged where alcohol is concerned, but have no problem medicating kids during this ‘vulnerable’ stage of development. I’d love to have a copy of the original collapsing cog system and do another voice over using the medications for ADHD instead of alcohol. Replace the word Alcohol with the word Ritalin when listening to the ad and see what you think.
