OMG! My mind is blown! I “see” the black dots, but they’re not really there.

I just had to search it to learn more I found:

The scintillating grid illusion is an optical illusion, discovered by E. Lingelbach in 1994, that is usually considered a variation of the Hermann grid illusion.

It is constructed by superimposing white discs on the intersections of orthogonal gray bars on a black background. Dark dots seem to appear and disappear rapidly at random intersections, hence the label “scintillating”. When a person keeps his or her eyes directly on a single intersection, the dark dot does not appear. The dark dots disappear if one is too close to or too far from the image.

The effect of both optical illusions is often explained by a neural process called lateral inhibition MORE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grid_illusion

I don’t see any black dots. Somehow I’m freakishly immune to this illusion. Scary!

Several cats leaped out of a white dot though.

    I must be seeing things.

Interesting, black dots appear whenever you look a litte sideways or up or down. Actually, as I found out when writing my thesis (more at http://acewriters.org )there’s also exists such a term as the “majority illusion” is well-known phenomenon since 1951 and called Conformity. The definition according to dictionary of psychology is: „Changing your attitudes, beliefs, thoughts, or behaviors in order to be more consistent with others.“ There is nothing new under the sun. The only new is the pretty beautiful sunset of classic newspapers, as a consequence of the development of Internet technology. No doubt, some people feel nostalgia for the recent past, when it was easier to influence people in a centralized way.
