In his 1911 “The Philosophy of ‘As If'”, defined mankind as “a species of monkey suffering from megalomania”.

Influenced by Kant, Schopenhauer, and Nietzsche. Large influence if the life of Bruno Bettelheim.

I know about this from “The Creation of Dr. B”, by Richard Pollak, 1997, a biography of Bruno Bettelheim, a most curious character.
