Did you see the one about marijuana causing suicide?

No, I didn’t. I will have to find the article and read it.

Cat, I don’t have a split sleep cycle like what that guy talks about. Many people who have never been on psych meds do well with that type of schedule.

I have several sleep cycles and feel like crap due to feeling like I never get any restorative sleep. It is not normal and please stop negating my experiences.

Yes, I do blame that on psychiatry as I had nothing like that prior to being on meds.
So I was put on Zyprexa 3 years ago and now I can’t sleep without it.

I have found a new drug which I like called Vraylar but again I can’t sleep with out Olanzapine.

I’m on the lowest dosage of Olanzapine 2.5 mg(but I still can’t sleep without it).

Is this drug viable for me to take long term or do I need to search for another drug?
Please see this thread regarding tapering off this drug:

You also might want to post in this section to get assistance:

    Lots of luck.

You raise some good points Oldhead. You may or may not know but I was furious about the blog entry linking to an article by Dr. Richard Friedman, a psychiatrist who is a big time drug pusher. And then to have him write about sleep issues when it is the god damm drugs that destroy sleep cycles was just too much for me.

Has anyone written to someone in charge of this site to find out their reasoning?

    Shawn,

Former congressional staffers on both sides of the political aisle have said petitions are a waste of time in the US. Maybe other countries are different.

Obviously, you can make up your own mind but I thought I would pass that on.
A lot of protest, then and with the woman’s march the next day. In my eyes Donald Trump has two marks against him from the get-go, he’s a rich boss. He can talk all the great trash he wants to, but I’ve kind of had it with this sort of Alexander/Julius imperialistic nationalist bombast.

I heard some commentator recently claiming there were only two times in history when this nation has been so divided, when Abraham Lincoln ran in 1861, and when Richard Nixon ran in 1972. Civil war?… Watergate?… Frankly, I’m opting for Watergate as the preferable choice.

    Frank,

I think in many ways Pence would be worse than Trump but I have come to a very reluctant conclusion that he needs to be President with Trump being impeached. If it ever happens which I doubt due to having the Republicans control Congress, Watergate will seem so minor compared to all his ethical conflicts.

Regarding Civil War, I greatly fear that if the Muslim ban isn’t reversed, there will be one. People are mad as hell and they are not going to take it anymore.

And for you Trump defenders, if Hillary had done what he did, you would be crying bloody murder and wanting her hanged.

Anyway, I hope to get to the local airport on Tuesday to join the demonstrators if support is still necessary.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is my understanding that most lawyers won’t take a case of psychiatric malpractice unless there has been a tragic homicide or suicide. I would love to be wrong on this but I fear I am not.

    “”Psychiatry works WHEN DONE CORRECTLY””

Uh no. To be honest, this statement angers more than accusing me of being a Scientologist because I criticize psychiatry. It implies that the perfect medication is out there when actually for many people, this is a wild goose chase that causes a further deterioration of physical health.

    Hi Selena,

    Great questions.

In the past, I have had some horrible experiences with therapists where were prior to my “fun” with psych meds. But when I was having horrific adverse reactions that started me on them for several years, I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for two therapists I saw. I think the 2nd one tried to tell me psych meds weren’t all cracked up they were supposed to be but unfortunately, I wasn’t ready to hear her message.

When I was tapering off of psych meds, I started working with a psychologist regarding career counseling. She was very supportive of what I was doing and there is no doubt in my mind that if I had done psychotherapy with her, it would have been quite productive. Unfortunately, she was too far from my residence and I quit seeing her.

Regarding taking psych meds, when I stopped tapering them, I was opposed to any consumption. But having horrific sleep issues besides sleep apnea that have greatly degraded the quality of my life changed my mind. Unfortunately, I haven’t found anything that has worked which depending on how one views things is a positive or negative.

I would love to hear more about your sleep issue as I am curious.

    Hi Nissan,

I am obviously not Robina but you might want to join http://survivingantidepressants.org/ and get support for your taper. Don’t be fooled by the title as this forum provides tapering support to people on all types of psych meds, including Seroquel.

    http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1707-tips-for-tapering-off-seroquel-quetiapine/?hl=seroquel

Their general recommendation is to taper 10% of current dose every 4 weeks. So cutting by 5mg is too much.

Anyway, give them a shot and best of luck.

    Hi Nicholas,

If you were reducing an antidepressant after being on the med for 3 months, I would be more comfortable with a quicker taper. But with an antipsychotic, you can’t be too cautious.

Anyway, I see you posted on the surviving antidepressants website in the “Tapering forum.” Sorry I wasn’t clear but you should be posting in the Intro forum. Don’t worry, a moderator will eventually move your post but if you want it to get attention sooner, you might want to go ahead and post in the correct place.

I would wait to get their input before you do anything.

I understand you want to get off of this med but this is not a race.
