INTAR Panel Event: Why are there so few rights-based institutions and alternatives to psychiatry in Germany. What does it take to change this?

May 11, 2021

Despite a history of anti-psychiatric and alternative approaches to psychiatry in Germany spanning more than 30 years, no more than two projects (Krisenzimmer Bochum, Weglaufhaus "Villa Stöckle" Berlin) have been able to establish themselves in the long term.

With a panel event INTAR [International Network for Alternatives and Rights-based Supports] therefore wants to explore the questions:

"Why are there so few rights-based institutions and alternatives to psychiatry in Germany. What does it take to change this?"

We are very pleased to welcome the following guests for this event::

Iris Hölling [Association for Protection against Psychiatric Violence, Board of Directors BOP&P e.V.]

Ute Kraemer [INTAR, Kellerkinder e.V., User/Survivor Research]

Jann Schlimme [Specialist for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Board of Directors German Society for Social Psychiatry]

The Women's Night Café Wildwasser

Michaela Wunsch [Psychoanalytic Library Berlin, b_books]

Ivonne Ludwig [GEWEBO, housing association trans*]

Feminist Health Care Research Group

The event will take place on 11.05.21 at 6:30pm GMT+2 | 12:30pm ET in German via Zoom. Live translation into English will be provided. Translation into German sign language can be organized if needed. We ask for prior registration.

May 23, 2021

Former employees from Soteria-Alaska will discuss key concepts of the highly effective Soteria model, developed in the 1970’s by Loren Mosher, as they were implemented in Alaska in 2009. The presenters will tell their stories of how they came to work at Soteria and their personal understandings of the concepts of “being with” and “contextual thinking,” thought by many to be the heart of the Soteria approach.
