Art Making, Nature, and Spirituality with Karin Jervert

September 6, 2022

A free online workshop for those with lived experience of voices or alternate realities

Tuesday 6th September, 12.00pm  to 6.00pm BST

Join artist, author, voice hearer, and psychiatric survivor Karin Jervert in an exploration of art-making, nature and spirituality. In this workshop, we will engage in several art-making exercises to strengthen our understanding of our unique experiences as essential parts of us that can serve our wellbeing. We will work with fears of expressing our selves, which have been embedded by cultural stigma and psychiatric trauma, learn to understand “mistakes” as essential to the process of expression, and incorporate play into how we face challenging thoughts, feelings and experiences. We’ll lean into the idea that terrorizing, challenging or disturbing images and voices can be opportunities for healing and growth when adopting the perspective of the “artist’s mind.” Throughout this workshop we will use earth based spirituality to frame our exploration of art-making, using it to deeply embrace the diversity inherent in the natural world and in the human experience. We’ll talk a bit about the ways voices and nature can mirror our inner world and discuss ways to sort through spiritual experiences and differentiate between useful information and trauma induced, fear based overwhelm.

This workshop is suitable for those with and without lived experience of voice hearing.
