Jock McLaren is an Australian psychiatrist, author, and critic (in no particular order). He has practiced psychiatry in remote areas and stayed passably sane by criticizing the lack of a scientific and ethical basis for modern psychiatry. McLaren has extensive experience in the fields of isolated psychiatry (i.e. working without hospitals or staff), in forensic and military psychiatry, and in managing disorders at the severe end of the scale.
