From Mad in Finland: I began to “get acquainted” with the practice of the psychiatric care system in the 90s. Since then, I have followed the psychiatric care system very closely, the first years as a patient and then as a professional. A lot of time has passed and the psychiatric system has changed wildly from the perspective of both parties. Hospital patient beds began to decline sharply just when I was entering treatment. Before I graduated and during the early years of my working life, many of the departments and hospitals where I had been treated were closed. Fortunately, the low point in my personal care history, a rehabilitation dormitory, was among the first places to close. In this article, I reflect on and recall the changes in psychiatric care, primarily from the perspective of ward care.
