Pill Cocktails for Veterans

From Mad in Puerto Rico: Despite being given this cocktail of medications supposedly treating the symptoms of emotional distress they are experiencing, suicide rates among veterans are extremely high. Not only that, but they also report that, in addition to medication, they are not being offered other types of therapeutic care. Many veterans mention that accessing psychotherapy within veterans’ facilities is difficult, and sometimes appointments are scheduled months after requesting them, with months passing between appointments. However, appointments with psychiatrists or primary care physicians, who are the ones prescribing the psychotropic medications, are much more frequent.
