The pills promise that we can be “the best version of ourselves.” While these medications can provide relief, they can also have very significant adverse effects in the short and long term. Reducing the dose or stopping a medication can cause severe and sometimes prolonged withdrawal symptoms. Symptoms may include anxiety, depression, akathisia (a type of restlessness that can be so severe as to lead to suicide), sensory disturbances, irritability, and more.
