Esaí Ortiz-Rivera is a queer interdisciplinary scholar and doctoral candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras.
They hold a Master of Arts in Gender and Women’s Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where they worked on the intersections of gender, sexuality, colonialism, performance studies, and visual cultures. They are currently finishing their dissertation on the lived experiences of grief within the colonial context of Puerto Rico which aims to critique the pathologization of grief through the imposition of a capitalist temporality.
