Leaving Atlanta, Georgia, at 21 with a quart of orange Thorazine, Bonnie Schell then spent 30 years in California where she founded a drop-in center for individuals caught in the psychiatric system. She published their writing in MHCAN’s Voices & Visions chapbooks, Kime’s Transcendent Visions, Bluebird’s The Altered State, and in a “Poetic Justice” column for Dendron/MindFreedom. Bonnie moved to NC in 2004 as Director of Consumer Affairs for a Medicaid managed care company. Her blended memoir, “Growing up MAD in the South,” was published in 2022. She is currently researching the consumer/survivor movement in California.
