    November 11, 2023

Political abuse of psychiatry, defined as the misuse of psychiatric diagnosis, treatment, and institutionalization for political or social objectives, is a topic of significant concern. Despite global condemnation, these practices continue to be observed in various forms across the world. A pivotal hybrid event on the state of the practice worldwide will be hosted in Vienna and online on October 1st and 2nd of 2023, and the 27th and 28th of October, 10th and 11th of November as online only sessions, gathering leading experts, survivors, and advocates to illuminate this pressing issue. Awareness will be raised, dialogue promoted, and action inspired through discussions and talks.

    UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK, IRELAND

Mad knowledge has been historically invalidated by academic and professional disciplines. Despite the rhetoric of ‘social inclusion’ and ‘co-production’, service users/survivors/Mad people continue to be viewed as non-credible knowers in relation to their own experiences. This is a form of injustice that renders them powerless within the systems that are meant to support them. • The diversity of Mad knowledge

International Peer Support (IPS): An Online Overview

    November 16, 2023

    Time Zone: Eastern Standard Time

Intentional Peer Support is a way of thinking about and inviting transformative relationships. It provides a powerful framework for creating relationships where both people learn and grow together. IPS is used across the world in community, peer support, and human services settings, and is a tool for community development with broad appeal to people from all walks of life.

Why IPS? Peers come together around shared experiences and often a desire to change lives. But without a new framework to build upon, people frequently re-enact “help” based on what was done to them. IPS offers a foundation for doing something different. We come from a history of grassroots alternatives that focus on building relationships that are mutual, explorative, and conscious of power.

In this three hour online overview participants will learn about the history of IPS as well as the tasks and principles of this transformational framework. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and have interactive discussions with the facilitators and other participants.

Please log in from a quiet, undisturbed location for this event as there are interactive sessions with discussions and break out groups, not webinars.
