You are right – everyones path to wellness is different and I would never tell you how to parent or raise your child. This was just our path for all it is or not worth. Based on the MTA study however medications seem to work in the short term but over the long term kids with ADHD wether on medications or not don’t do as well as their non ADHD peers – lower college success, more chance of being on disability etc. So I think all that really says is for a parent that you have to be on top of stuff, educated about the medications and alternatives, watching for side effects and you won’t get all the answers you need from your doctor. But remember ADHD has never been proven to a be a defect in the manufacture of stimulants/Ritalin in the brain so what is the medication actually treating.
Hi – you are right they are made in USA but the company is located in Canada. There was a lawsuit against the company from the Canadian government. But guess what? the company won and the judge mandated that the company never stop making the product since it helped so many people. Read Autumn Strigham’s book for the details. Dr Popper, Harvard psychiatrist went to Canada to testify about the product during the trial.
Rossa _ I appreciate your comments. But he was very sick before he went on the medications. We would have never medicated him just for some mild inattention and hyperactivity. He got much sicker with the medications that I agree – but he was very sick before and has NEVER been as well as he is now.
I can why you think that an odd term – it just used to mean that multiple generations in one family diagnosed – grandparents, mother, daughter and son – read the Autumn’s book and you will see what I mean – sorry for any confusion. It was not meant to imply bipolar anything more than that!
