  • I understand your analogy and believe it is a good comparison, however, depression and other mental illnesses are often incurable and are only treatable. A car is able to be repaired, therefore eliminating the issue completely. With depression, that is not the case and treatment is there to lessen the symptoms. If the patient consents to treatment, it would be a different story, but I agree that in cases where the patient is being forced to partake in ECT, that is absolutely morally wrong: it should be an option, not a definite decision made by others for the patient.
