Please don’t give up your chosen profession. And I say that as a woman who has seen her own family members and people I love, either sent to an early grave, or disabled permanently by the current system. Psychiatry has ruined my life, but I live in hope, because it’s all I have left, that one day voices like yours will be heard and things will have to change. For humanity’s sake just find a way to go about things differently. For a start you are here! You are not alone! I remember having the same conversation a few years back with a lovely young Registrar in London, who was thinking of quitting the profession because he thought he was the only one as well. It’s a lonely path I’m sure, but brave honest souls like you, that recognise there has to be a better way, one day might outnumber the poor misguided souls who continue practicing business as usual psychiatry. I pray to God that the change that is needed, will be in my lifetime, because make no mistake, Psychiatry and the pursuit of profit by the pharmaceutical industry, destroys peoples lives. Period. I wish you love and light on your journey.
