  • I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 in 1999 and was on and off (but mostly on) psych meds for 10 years. Now it’s been 12 years of being totally off all medication.

I was also told that my brain was untrustworthy and I had to take my meds like a diabetic had to take his insulin, but an inner knowing inside rejected this line and I fought to get off the stuff. It was a difficult journey at first but I’m so glad I got out. Life gets better and better. Married for 12 years with 2 wonderful kids. So much more I can say. Trust your intuition, not the “experts.” Your intuition is the best “expert” concerning your own choices. At the same time, if you ever do go the medication-free route, do it in community. It takes a village. A small one may well do but I wouldn’t recommend none at all. All the best to you!
