Emmeline Mead

Emmeline is a longtime activist, artist and psychiatric survivor whose experiences with psychiatry started as a foster child.

Inspired by Robert Whitaker’s books and the hard-earned wisdom of other survivors, she eventually began to question and then reject the bio-medical model of psychiatry. Emmeline joined the MIA team as Community Manager in April of 2014, and now serves as editor of Blogs, Personal Stories and Initiatives as well as Mad in America’s weekly newsletter. She invites readers to get in touch if they’d like to share their story or are involved with projects that seek to change the current drug-centered paradigm of care.
