Kermit, West Virginia is home to the Kermit Sav-Rite Pharmacy, whose owner has pleaded guilty to fraudulent sales of prescription drugs. The Centers for Disease Control has warned that prescription drug abuse – Xanax, in particular – is on the rise. Poverty, lack of education and lack of opportunities are thought to be “social determinants” of the spreading problem.
