PLoS Medicine’s series on Global Mental Health Practice looks at the BasicNeeds model of Mental Health and Development. BasicNeeds is comprised of five key elements: capacity building, community mental health, livelihoods, research, and management. The BasicNeeds approach assumes that “Involving affected individuals, their families, and communities in a program, as well as tapping into local resources, is essential to the success and sustainability of a program.”
Let’s hope Nepal can save itself from the neocolonial bio-lie-o-quacks who are no doubt coming to medicalize their mentations.
