Libby Stuyt, MD, is the Medical Director for the Circle Program at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo, Colorado, a 90-day inpatient treatment program, funded by the State of Colorado, for persons with severe co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse who have failed all other levels of treatment. She is a board certified Addiction Psychiatrist and has been working in the field of addiction psychiatry since 1990. She is extremely interested in tobacco and its effects on the brain, behavior and recovery from both substance abuse and mental illness. She is a staunch advocate for tobacco cessation and prevention. She helped the Circle Program become tobacco free beginning in January 2000 and has incorporated numerous complementary treatments in the program to improve recovery and help decrease the dependence on medications. She was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association in 2008 and has been listed in the Best Doctors in America since 2001.
