Stuart Shipko, MD, has been a practicing physician for 34 years.  Initially an emergency physician and family physician, he later became a psychiatrist to further explore the relationship between the mind and body in states of illness.  He has published original research relating panic disorder to abnormalities of bile flow that result in reflux-based sinusitis and heartburn  (http://stuartshipko.com/research.html.)  Sub-specialty interests include anxiety/panic disorders, and the side effects/withdrawal effects of antidepressants, benzodiazepines and other psychiatric medications. In his private practice in Pasadena, CA, Dr. Shipko dispenses empathic psychotherapy with a good measure of common sense and a practical approach to emotional problems.  He is the author of Surviving Panic Disorder and more recently Xanax Withdrawal
