CBC News reports that Canadian Journal of Psychiatry editor Dr. Joel Paris believes people are becoming too reliant on psychiatric drugs to try to deal with normal life problems. “It’s an attitude that says mental problems are due to chemical (imbalance), drugs restore chemical balances, therefore let’s prescribe them,” Paris stated. “I find it troubling.” Paris told CBC News that he was particularly concerned that many psychiatrists and family doctors are “turning childhood itself into a disease and way over-treating people for problems that would be better left alone.”
