Giuseppe Tibaldi, MD – Long Bio

EVIDENCE-BASED HOPE

Giuseppe Tibaldi lives in Turin, in the north-western region called Piedmont. He is a researcher, clinical psychiatrist (head of a team at a Community Mental Health Centre serving 50.000 inhabitants), and psychotherapist, whose professional life dates to the early years of the Italian Psychiatric Reform. Some of the asylum “walls” survived beyond the institutions’ actual closure in Italy: the prejudice of “incurability” (which supports the long-term drug treatments and is reinforced by them), as well as lack of comprehensibility of the psychotic experience. Breaking down old and new walls is a never-ending job.
