In Scientific American Blogs, Jesse Bering argues that there’s at least one simple explanation for why more men than women kill themselves: Their respective choices on how to do it.

“One constant finding in suicide research is that men are far more likely to kill themselves than women. Why? It’s mostly because they’re far more likely to use a gun to do the job. In any given year, men account for about 80 percent of all suicides, and the lion’s share of those deaths are gun-related,” writes Bering.
