Afiya House – Long Bio

A PEER RESPITE HOUSE

Afiya is a part of the Western Mass Recovery Learning Community (www.westernmassrlc.org).  They opened on August 4th, 2012 as the first peer respite in Massachusetts.  Their name, selected by the community that helped to vision us, is a Swahili word meaning ‘physical, emotional and spiritual health and wholeness.’ Afiya’s mission is to strive to provide a safe space in which each person can find the balance and support needed to turn what is so often referred to as a ‘crisis’ into a learning and growth opportunity.  For more information about them, visit  www.afiyahouse.org.
