Nutshell (MTV Unplugged) by Alice In Chains

This week’s Song of the Week was submitted by MIA Reader Liza: “This song was composed by a person longing to be free of addiction and the pain that led him to it. I’ve always felt a connection to the song in my suicidal phases because there’s such a vulnerability, helplessness and loneliness… The feeling that no matter what it all comes to the same despair is devastating. A despair so strong he can’t even shout it out but to lament it. It’s not a song to bring relief but reflection: how are addicted and suicidal people being treated? Has it been effective? Are they being listened to without judgement for real? Because I don’t feel heard, neither respected. It’s been a lonely journey.”
