From Mad in Denmark: It is very rare that there are critical voices present from the psychiatric establishment. It is even rarer to hear a psychiatrist share his personal stories of having been in psychiatry. But here we have both in one!

Helene Speyer, Clinical Associate Professor and specialist in psychiatry, senior researcher at Region Hovedstadens Psychiatry, shares for the first time her personal story about how she had a serious mental crisis at the age of 13 and encountered a non-diagnostic approach to her disorder, which resulted in that she was given a career in psychiatry instead of what most likely would have been a career as a psychiatric patient. Later, as an adult, she was a patient in the psychiatric system and realized that there was something completely wrong with this kind of help.
