From Mad in Brasil: Women are the most diagnosed with depression, but also with anxiety disorders, eating disorders and panic disorders. Furthermore, gender inequality is also seen in the fact that women consume more prescribed psychiatric drugs, mainly antidepressants and anxiolytics. The article argues that these gender differences are not natural or biologically determined, and proposes to deconstruct this idea. But they warn of the difficulty of this endeavor given that this gender bias has accompanied psychiatry since its origins.
