From Mad in Sweden: I believe that many of my friends, colleagues, acquaintances who are trying in various ways to improve conditions in psychiatry are making a fundamental mistake.
I am not referring to those who in their everyday work try to meet people in a decent way beyond the ready-made package solutions that the state and the regions mandate. I am thinking of those who believe that it would be possible to turn the practice and knowledge of psychiatry in general towards a more community-oriented, user-oriented and humanistic direction with the help of facts and arguments. I also think of myself in this context.
In order to understand our mistake, I must first confess my great admiration for the ability of “psychiatry” to deal with its failures and carry on as if nothing had happened.
