From Mad in Denmark: The voices of those who themselves have experience as users of psychiatry unfortunately had remarkably little space in the program at this year’s Psychiatry summit. The implied hierarchical message in it was emphasized by the many introductory and opening speeches, where the Queen’s and the Minister of Health’s participation were emphasized endlessly, just as the chairman of the Danish Psychiatric Association was given a privileged – but absent – place with small interview bits on film. And the message was topped off by the director of the Danish Health Authority, who continued to say that he was listening, but who alternately used condescending humor and personal attacks to illustrate that it must be a truth with modifications.
