The Right to Happiness – Alessandra’s Story

From Mad in Italy: Hello everyone, my name is Alessandra, I am 44 years old and I have been living in Veneto for a few years. My hometown is Milan. Telling my journey would perhaps require more “episodes”, here I would like to focus more on what the ruminations of thought represented for me in my journey, of which I will tell you how they began, just to contextualize and understand well how I then managed “thinking too much”. I came into contact with psychiatry for the first time in 1994, when I had just turned 14. From a visit that lasted I think less than 5 minutes I was diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic. I had come to the clinical context because I was always crying and had an extremely strong psychological breakdown, I was always crying, a tap open of tears, also because I had “held my ground” in all the previous years: in addition to the aggressive arguments between my parents I had been the victim of heavy daily bullying at school, for almost two years.
