Quarterly theme on neuroplasticity as a way to recovery from persistent drug withdrawal syndrome (PWS/PAWS)

From Mad in the Netherlands: We often hear about the difficulties people face after stopping psychiatric medications. Persistent withdrawal symptoms can cause some pretty dark feelings and thoughts. This can lead to people feeling hopeless. In a recent meeting hosted by Mad in America, three people told a story of hope. “This is the first time I have looked back in chronological order at the past five years of dealing with withdrawal symptoms and persistent withdrawal syndrome from an antidepressant and a benzodiazepine. My journey has been hard, lonely, scary and at times hopeless, but over time my perspective has changed to also be an enlightening, growth-filled lesson in humility and connection. But what a lot of work and time it has taken to be able to think this way!”
