Defiant Compliance by Jeffrey Powell

My mind is shattered from this new therapy
My raging backlash is like lightning discharging
What hasn’t happened: getting my old self back
What really matters is my spirit stays intact

I’ve gotten very close
to fully losing it
But I never will fully
choose to submit

Menacing meds have failed me
for the last damn time
Menacing meds that I took
with no good reason why

But it’s over over
there will not be a surrendering
Menacing meds a trick bag
That I am severing

These drugs are dangerous, not to be tampered with
Your life will tremble if you get the worst of it
Even if these doctors think they’ve done no harm
I must transition – relinquishing the storm

Menacing meds I will not
abide the tortured cries
Menacing meds there’s no way
you’ll keep me terrorized

Honestly someone someone
should make it right and apologize
Menacing meds we are done
You’ll no longer cauterize

From the perspective of a frustrated patient with mounting side effects from their prescribed pharmaceuticals. The patient’s voice DOES matter and can assert to put their future well-being in their own hands (and not a meddling pdoc’s).
