CBC News reports that Canadian Journal of Psychiatry editor Dr. Joel Paris believes people are becoming too reliant on psychiatric drugs to try to deal with normal life problems. ā€œIt’s an attitude that says mental problems are due to chemical (imbalance), drugs restore chemical balances, therefore let’s prescribe them,ā€ Paris stated. ā€œI find it troubling.ā€ Paris told CBC News that he was particularly concerned that many psychiatrists and family doctors are ā€œturning childhood itself into a disease and way over-treating people for problems that would be better left alone.ā€
