Susan Ross turned to writing full time after teaching writers for three decades, earning three Fulbright scholarships, and being named Humanities Scholar. Her essays appear in Cutthroat, About Place, Marrow Magazine (#13) and elsewhere. An avid gardener, needleworker, and gourmet cook, she grew up in the Northeast, lives in the Pacific Northwest, and devotes her days to writing and wandering the beaches. “Something Broken” is taken from her unpublished memoir, Shards: A Life Reassembled.
