'Keeping Control' Mental Health Safeguarding Research Sense Making Event

September 29, 2017

The NIHR School for Social CareĀ ResearchĀ has fundedĀ theĀ user-led research projectĀ Keeping Control: Exploring mental health service user perspectives on targeted violence and hostility in the context of adult safeguarding.

You can find out more about the project and listen to the perspectives of the service user researchers involved on the webpageĀ here.

"We would enormously value your input into a one day research ā€˜sense-makingā€™ event weā€™ll be holding in central London on 29th September 2017. The idea is to discuss what weā€™ve found with mental health and adult safeguarding stakeholders to see where our research can make the most impact on policy, practice and improving adult safeguarding for people who are targeted for harassment, violence or abuse because of their mental health problems.

We are delighted that the day will be launched with a keynote speech from Dr Adi Cooper OBE, Adult Safeguarding Lead, Association of Directors of Adult Social Services and Visiting Professor at the University of Bedfordshire. Dr Cooper was instrumental in ensuring the inclusion of Making Safeguarding Personal in the Care Act 2014.

We also plan to premiere a ā€˜rough cutā€™ of a 3-minute digital story animation by Inkwell Arts exploring the research and some key themes for practice.

The discussion and outcomes of the day will be captured and a workshop report outlining recommendations for change and development from the field will be published and disseminated as part of the research impact strategy. With participant consent, we will actively use social media at the event for live broadcasting to widen access to the discussion."
