Thank you Kevin. I appreciate you sharing your experiences and Im glad you liked the music! While I was in the process of writing this story I kept finding songs that spoke to me during those periods and wanted to find a way to incorporate the other senses I was experiencing at the time I was writing. Music and the visuals were part of that and MIA was incredible for allowing me the platform to express myself in this way.
Thank you for your empathy and support!
Its interesting that you mention that because during my research on my story I discovered that there was a big debate about managed care happening at the time that some of my providers were even engaged in publicly. From a health systems perspective it was interesting to read about that political milieu because of the way payment systems continue to drive care in the United States.
Yes, I actually didn’t realize until I started doing more research during my own story how much worse this industry has gotten over the decades. I don’t know why I thought it would have improved, but unfortunately no. Utah is definitely a hub and its a shame it has been allowed to go on to affect so many generations of teenagers.
Thank you for sharing that and Im so glad your son is doing well. Neurodiversity should be celebrated and thinking with different perspectives should be viewed as a valuable addition to the makeup of society.
Thank you! I appreciate your support!! So many generations of survivors 🙁 I do believe the way out is connection with others. That is one thing the pandemic has highlighted even more for me is that without other human beings, I personally will end up metaphorically stuck in Utah forever. And the white vans aren’t they such a symbol of institutionalization? every TTI survivor I have met cringe at the sight of a white van . Would love to connect. Thank you
Thank you! I believe there are a great many of us out there and I am noticing that a very common thread with many survivors is unrecognized trauma. I also think sensitivity can be a gift! Thank you for your kindness and support.
Thank you for your support and kindness! I hope with more awareness we can protect future generations from at least a fraction of the pain so many of us have endured.
This is such a great article, It outlines my own personal experience with medications in a linear way and frames it so well. I wish I had learned more about safe withdrawal and proper tapering before I went off many of my medications, I have had a lot of issues related to tapering at the “recommended” intervals and did not find the online communities in time. I just wanted them out of my body. I am grateful for your thoughtful examination of this topic and I think its extremely important to bring the topic of safer withdrawal and deprescribing into the consciousness of the medical community.
