“Deadly Medicines and Organised Crime” Wins Book Award From British Medical Association

Peter Gøtzsche’s Deadly Medicines and Organised Crime has won first prize in the “Basis of Medicine” category of the British Medical Association’s annual book awards.

A post from the Council for Evidence-based Psychiatry, of which Gøtzsche is a member, quoted from one of the judges commenting on the book: “I was particularly interested in the entanglement between doctors and the pharmaceutical industry. The use of clear language – fraud, corruption, and criminality – helps show what we would call this behaviour in any other sphere of life. It also refocuses our minds on the impact this behaviour has on patients – medication being the third largest cause of death…”

The winner in the “Psychiatry” category was Jon Frederickson’s Co-Creating Change: Effective Dynamic Therapy Techniques, a book about psychotherapy strategies for working with people who are “stuck” or “resistant.”
