The Dutch College of General Practitioners has issued guidelines recommending non-pharmacological treatment of depressive symptoms as a “first step.” The chairman of the Dutch Association for Independent Psychologists and Psychotherapists notes that patients have been prescribed antidepressants “too often, too quickly, and for too long without them really doing much good,” and hopes for a substantial drop in consumption.
