Cathy Levin – Op-Ed Bio

Cathy A. Levin has been an intelligent, adept organizer in the Recovery Movement in Massachusetts. She led the Emergency Room Rights Campaign, a legislative effort to stop the practice of forcing all psychiatric patients to wear hospital johnnies during long waits in emergency departments. She also worked for Dr. Dan Fisher of the National Empowerment Center, helping to bring the first peer-run crisis respite, Afiya, to Northampton, MA; it has been an innovative addition to the state’s traditionally conservative mental health system.
