Research published yesterday in the British Medical Journal, on 34,727 patients age 16 years and older (age- and gender-matched against 69,418 controls) finds that anxiolytic and hypnotic drugs doubled the risk of mortality over a seven-year period.
Weich, S., Pearce, H., Croft, P., Singh, S., et al; Effect of anxiolytic and hypnotic drug prescriptions on mortality hazards: retrospective cohort study. British Medical Journal. March 19, 2014. 348. doi: 10.1136/bmj.g1996
Just amazing, that even the “soft” psych drugs have such a destructive effect on people’s health. This should be better known.

this is not the first time such results have been found. I did a post with similar info a few years ago:
Sleeping Pills (benzos and Z-drugs) shorten life-span and a list of other adverse reactions

the disturbing thing about this is these findings are found again and again and nothing is done to stop harming people!

I’m beginning to engage in conversations with some of the psychiatrists in the state hospital where I work as a peer worker.
Any time that I bring up the numerous studies that have been done on the adverse affects of all the toxic drugs used by psychiatry their first and only real response is that “you can make statistics say anything that you want and obviousely your studies are anti-meds and anti-psychiatry!” You can be having a fairly decent conversation with them and then try to move into discussing the drugs and it’s like running into a brick wall going 90 mph! Seemingly intelligent people morph into these beings who deny the truth in every way, shape and form! They will not discuss anything that touches on the fact that the drugs are destructive and detrimental to the people that they’re giving them to.
I believe that they know what these drugs are doing to people but they’re never going to admit anything. To do so would require that they re-evaluate everything that they’ave done and continue to do professionally. They aren’t going to do this. We’re being very naive as a movement if we think that psychiatry is ever going to move into reality on their own. They are not going to do so! I don’t understand how they can continue on as if nothing is wrong when they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that what they’re doing is harmful. We are going to have to force them into stopping what they’re doing because they’re vever going to stop on their own.
