Lois Oppenheim, PhD – Long Bio

Lois Oppenheim, PhD, is Distinguished Scholar, Professor of French, and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Montclair State University where she teaches courses in literature, modernism in the literary and visual arts, and applied psychoanalysis. She is also Scholar Associate Member of the New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, where she serves as Program Chair, and Honorary Member of the William Alanson White Society. Dr. Oppenheim has authored or edited eleven books, the most recent being Imagination from Fantasy to Delusion — which was awarded the 2013 Courage to Dream Prize from the American Psychoanalytic Association — and A Curious Intimacy: Art and Neuro-Psychoanalysis. She has also published over ninety papers. Dr. Oppenheim has been a Visiting Scholar at the New York State Psychiatric Institute; on the boards of The Philoctetes Center for the Multidisciplinary Study of Imagination and several other interdisciplinary associations; and she continues to host the popular interview series called “Conversations with…” at the New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.
